Overview

1. Product Overview

The multihead weigher is the counting and check-weighing unit of the secondary packaging line. It does not receive bulk material — it receives already-formed finished small packs. Every hopper holds packs, not granules. Its task has two layers: counting pack-by-pack to confirm the exact quantity of each batch group, and check-weighing to use the weight signature to judge whether a group is short, over-supplied or abnormal, intercepting defective pack groups before they enter the bundling machine.

Founded in 2019 with an engineering team of over ten years of weighing and packaging experience, Globule designs in line with FSMA sanitary design guidelines and builds to food-factory standards. The machine suits counting and rechecking of finished packs in the secondary packaging of biscuits, confectionery, extruded snacks, nuts, daily chemicals and pharmaceuticals.

2. Essential Difference from Bulk Multihead Combination Weighers

The classic stage for a multihead weigher is bulk dosing: granules or powder are distributed from a central cone into multiple weigh hoppers, and a computer picks the combination closest to a target weight, then drops it into a bag. That logic does not apply in secondary packaging — finished packs are already formed; they cannot be "chopped and recombined", and their weights are fixed. So this machine is fundamentally different from bulk versions:

Counting first, weighing as verification

● — the core output is "how many packs are in this group"; each pack's weight is used as a verification signature. Batches are defined by count and validated by weight;

Fixed-quantity loading

● — each weigh hopper receives a defined number of finished packs (e.g. N packs per hopper), never a random pile of bulk;

Recheck means reject

● — when a group's total weight deviates from standard (over-count, under-count, empty pack, or a leaking pack weighing light), the system flags it and rejects it at the discharge, keeping defective groups out of the shrink-wrapping stage;

Downstream interlock

● — counting and recheck results are fed back in real time to the bundling machine and the line PLC, supporting per-batch statistics, shortage tracing and production reports.

A bulk weigher answers "is this bag heavy enough?"; this machine answers "is this group's pack count right, and are there any abnormal packs mixed in?" — one doses, the other audits; the jobs are completely different.

3. Typical Applications in the Secondary Packaging Line

Pre-bundling audit

1. — before the secondary packaging machine (heat-shrink/bundling), every group of finished packs is counted and check-weighed, eliminating "one pack short in every carton" complaints at the source;

Batch collection counting

2. — continuous incoming packs are collected into groups of a preset quantity (e.g. groups of 5, 10 or 12 packs) to standardise batches for downstream bundling;

Weight-signature quality inspection

3. — using weight as a signature to detect torn/leaking packs, empty packs or under-filled packs for unattended online QC.

4. Construction Highlights

Food-grade stainless body

● — all-stainless construction with rounded, crevice-free hoppers that detach quickly for cleaning, in line with FSMA sanitary design;

High-accuracy weighing cells

● — resolution and stability are tuned for the finished-pack recheck duty, so dynamic weighing stays accurate;

Gentle hopper discharge

● — opening angle and cushioning are calibrated so packs land softly without surface damage;

Optional reject mechanism

● — air-blast or swing-arm rejection, auto-matched to line speed for accurate rejection without injuring neighbouring packs;

INOVANCE control

● — integrates with the unified line control platform; parameterised recipes allow one-touch changeover.

5. Hygiene, Safety and Maintenance

All pack-contact hoppers and chutes are food-contact grade; weighing cells are sealed and protected so flushing never interrupts readings. The body has rounded transitions and no horizontal dust shelves; routine cleaning simply means detaching and rinsing the hoppers. Operation is smooth and low-noise with full guarding and interlocks, and wear points — hoppers, load cells and the reject unit — are all tool-free quick-release designs.

6. Line Coordination and Customisation

Globule proposes solutions from a whole-line perspective: hopper count, hopper volume and the recheck strategy are determined by pack size, unit weight, target batch and line speed, with integrated supply and commissioning together with the vibrate feeder, conveyors, bundling machine and packaging machine. A pack-testing service is available — we verify counting and recheck accuracy with your real product before issuing a proposal, so the machine meets spec from day one.

7. Service Commitment

Since 2019 Globule has held to "Hygiene First · Safety First", providing selection consulting, proposal design, installation, commissioning, operator training and remote support. Choose a Globule multihead weigher and add an intelligent gate to your secondary packaging line — no over-count, no under-count, no defective groups reaching the end packaging.
